FID is headed by the Director of Financial Institutions and reports directly to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance.

 

 

The five units within FID are:

  

1.    Banking and Finance Unit (BFU)

·      Responsible for the licensing, supervision and regulation of banks and finance companies in Brunei Darussalam, including offshore banks.

 2.    Insurance and Takaful Unit (ITU)

·      Responsible for the licensing, supervision and regulation of insurance companies and takaful operators and their intermediaries in Brunei Darussalam, including international insurance and takaful activities. 

3.    Money Changer and Remittance Unit (MCRU)

·     Responsible for the licensing, supervision and regulation of money changers and money remittance companies in Brunei Darussalam.

 4.    Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)

·      Responsible for the receipt, analysis and dissemination of suspicious transaction reports (STR) and other financial reports to the law enforcement agencies (LEA).

 5.    Administration Unit

·     Responsible for the welfare of FID officers and staff; oversees training allocation; and handles non-core matters.
